“Thou hast made us for thyself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it finds its rest in thee.”
β St. Augustine
How many of you have seen a lost child in the grocery store or some other venue? The child instinctively looks for its parents and is upset until he/she finds them. The parents are upset as well thinking the worst has happened to their beloved child. In reading the quote from St. Augustine he remarks we have a similar restlessness and in some cases fear because our heart is missing God. I believe God has similar feelings to the parents of the lost child hoping and praying that the child will be found and come home to our God. That restlessness and maybe a deep longing is for our God as He waits patiently for us to turn back to Him. It is only when we do that our hearts are content as we have found the source of our longing and are truly “found”.
Dear Jesus – help us to find you amidst the craziness that is part of our day today. Our hearts are caught up in the hustle and bustle of the day, but the opportunity to find you will put our hearts at rest and help us through our day. We ask this is your name, Amen.
God Bless
thank you for the nice reminder, that which we yearn for is yearning for us.
