Inspiration from Unspeakable Tragedy

This week a dear friend lost his son. As a parent, I cannot think of anything worse than losing a child no matter the age. I can’t imagine what the family is going through. We will continue to pray for the family and their son to find some level of peace after this tragedy. My wife and I attended the wake Thursday evening, and we witnessed a tremendous showing of faith and trust in God from this man and his family.

My friend was able to eulogize his son. Honestly, I don’t know how he held it together, but he did, and was very strong in speaking about his faith. He told the people in attendance that he and his family were crushed. He also told everyone that he knew his son was ok, because he was home with God. This man believed with all of his heart that God was there for his son, as well as his family. He chose a reading from the Gospel of Matthew and spoke specifically about verses 28-30:

28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

These words hold a very different meaning for me personally today. Watching this man, who just suffered a terrible tragedy, trust and believe with all of his heart in God, in Heaven, and that his son was now back home with our God. Wow. What amazing faith during such a tragic time. I will continue to pray for this family, and I will also pray to find the strength and the faith shown by my friend and his family. Amazing.

Let’s say a prayer that all are able to find the peace of Jesus in times of loss.

God Bless
